Luxury Tax

The Conservatives admit to overspending by $420,000 and are found guilty of breaking election laws.

The punishment?

A $50,000 fine...or about the amount they'll raise from their next anti-CBC e-mail.

Which is kind of appropriate, since they never got more than a political slap on the wrist for the "in and out scandal". The blame for that may rest on the opposition parties for bad branding - had it been dubbed the "Conservative money laundering scandal", they might have got some legs out of it.

Nonsense. They'll send out a letter talking about how Elections Canada spending limits limit free speech and make 10 times the fine. Of course, are they not in a position to change those laws now?

  • When will the People of Canada see the monies returned which were "misallocated" by the Liberal Party of Canada just a few years ago?

You're going to get up on that high horse after Tony "the Fifty-Million Dollar Man" Clement?

  • I'm sure that Rememberance day is today, played absolutely no calculation in when they decided to plea guilty. Nope, none at all.

  • What would've been different if they'd struck the deal last week, or next week, SirWilfirdL [sic]?

  • It would have got more press coverage Invisible Hand, that is what would be different. Harper will have a hard time equating speech to money, given that he is adamently against free spech as evidenced by his deleting of facebook commnets on his site that do not jive with the Leader's message.

  • @Anon 6:52, it's a shame that you don't know what Freedom of Speech means.

It does NOT mean that you get to use the other guy's podium to trounce his message. It DOES mean that you get to have your say to whatever audience you build yourself without fear of State reprisals.

It's time Canadians learned that they don't get to use "the other guy's" audience and claim it as their own.
