Turns out Albertans like "feminist lawyers", after all
Rob Anders, back in 2003:
On Saturday, Redford came out of nowhere to triple her first ballot support and win the Alberta PC leadership race. She will be Alberta's next Premier.
Anders, speaking of his Calgary West nomination opponent, Alison Redford, says he is confident he'll have little trouble rounding up enough party votes to defeat Redford, "unless she's got some magic support base of people who like feminist lawyers."

In fairness, this was 8 years ago, before Redford had established herself.
But yes - it speaks to Anders' ability to organize and mobilize his supporters, if nothing else.

In more fairness, the chick (yes, that's what we called her and her friends at BCHS; stopped calling women that when I got the evil eyes in Toronto) was working for the U.N. and other worldly locales only a few years prior to coming back to fight Anders. She had not built a base an incumbent M.P. has (Anders has never run and got less than 50% of the vote). To even go up against the twit shows courage and deserves much praise!

I remember well the 2003 candidate challenge. It was, again, a preferential ballot process. You were able to select a 1through 4 option for each hopeful. I believe Redford won the first two ballots and still had more #1 votes than Anders. Anders won on the basis of second choice ballots and we have been stuck with the embarrassment ever since. Most people have given up on ever seeing him leave. He has done nothing positive for his constituents. He is constantly making stupid comments like the one above all the while taking home full MP pay and a full pension after he leaves for virtually doing nothing!
