Leadership Vote Totals

Three of Alberta's political parties have now held leadership races this year, with the Wildrose Alliance having picked their leader two years ago.

Below are the number of Albertans who voted in each contest:

Progressive Conservatives: 59,359 on ballot one, 78,176 on ballot two
Alberta Liberals: 8,640
Wildrose Alliance: 8,200
Alberta Party: 1,200

Yes, the PC total is down from their 2006 leadership contest. The dynasty has seen better years.

But for those writing their obituaries, it's important to remember just how large an organizational advantage they hold over their opponents.

  • Yes, which is precisely why the progressive opposition parties - Alberta, ND, and Liberal parties (and the Evergreens if they become official) need to work TOGETHER.

  • The NDP in Quebec reavealed that a charismatic leader does not require much organization.

Reform demolished the Progressive Conservatives in the west with much less structure and funds.

Those seeking to unite the Left, forget it. Just make sure progressive Alison beats the Wildrose Party.
