And so it begins...

With a spring election highly possible (70% possible according to well placed and shockingly anonymous sources), the air war has started, with new NDP and Conservative ads released today.

The NDP ads start with "average Canadians" raising an issue - it's a cute trick, since it shows Jack responding directly to Canadians. There are BC and Ontario-specific HST ads, along with this one:

So if you're keeping track, Jack is now in his "making parliament work" mood. For those of you without your Parliament Hill decoder rings at home, "making parliament work", "putting partisan games aside", and "getting results" (for people?) can all be translated loosely as "rolling over". Of course, even if Jack wants a way out, he still needs Harper to offer him one or we'll be in an election campaign by month's end.

And judging from the CPC ad buy (which has included Superbowl and Oscar commercials), they're very much ready for that. The latest from our Conservative friends includes a surprisingly policy-related attack ad going after Ignatieff on corporate taxes.

There's also a positive spot where you can see Steve playing the piano, see Steve in a hard hat, and see Steve visiting world leaders. Oh, and there's a $16 billion dollar F-35 fly over:

  • FWIW, those fighters looked like CF-18s to me.

  • Couldn't have been a CF-35.

Despite the Conservatives determination to do the bidding of the US on these jets and spend $20 odd billion on them... the US flew only their first test flight yesterday.

And it wasn't over the Parliament Buildings.

  • I'm pretty sure the ones flying over Parliament were Snowbird Tutors. The F-18s show up later, escorting a larger jet.

  • Can we stop with all the Liberal/NDP shouting over who rolled over when? Both parties have propped Harper up at different times...

Of course if you're a Liberal the NDP picked the wrong times to do it and likewise with the NDP...

  • The one time the NDP prevented an election it was in exchange for a major extension of EI benefits. I'm not quite sure what exactly the Liberals extracted in the 100-odd times they voted to prop up Harper. All I remember is some panel with Pierre Poilievre...

Anyways, the die is cast, there will be an election. Its good politics for the NDP to appear as reluctant as possible to force one - but its still going to happen. Mark my words.

  • Please, please, please continue to knock the F-35 purchase and extra please keep on using the $16Billion number for the cost.

Canadians respect our military, well most Canadians . .. the NDP Progressives and the downtown Toronto Liberal latter crowd don't but they are useless mouths anyways.

Going against our military will backfire for Iggy and the continued fraudulent use of the $16Billion figure as the purchase cost won't fool anyone who likes Tim Hortons.

Let's see doing the same to the the useless CBC, Harper could talk about the $40Billion the CBC costs.

Just don't mention the spending happens over 20 years.

Attack our military, pay the price

  • I doubt there'll be an election

Only because people are ALWAYS saying one's around the corner.

However I can't wait for one, let's shake things up. An election will mean 1 or 2 party Leaders out and replacements... amen

  • Ted your take on the F35 is like all uninformed Civilians; I spent 33 years as Aircrew in our Air Force and I tell you the F35 is the best and only way to go..expensive yes but all NATO will eventually have them and in a war you want compatability with your allies. I worked with NATO forces many decades ago and compatibility was a huge problem. You need to trust your Military professionals who inform your Government. TeeJay
