I Don't Want To Get Off On A Rant Here...

I don't have anything really relevant to comment on today but I feel to need to bump the April Fool's post off the top of the blog come April 2nd. So, I give you a pair of recent Rick Mercer rants - one taking aim at the Grits, and one taking aim at the Tories. Both excellent examples of using comedy to make a point

  • What I like is that Mercer has always been a generally equal-opportunity comedian. Although he leaves the Bloc and NDP out a lot (even proportionally to their seats), perhaps they're just less crazy... (even I find that hard to buy)

  • I don't know if I would be willing to say that about Mercer and the Canadian Alliance...

  • He may have been a bit harsh on the Canadian Alliance but, with Day at the helm, it's not like they didn't deserve it.

The man's politics are probably a bit more leftish (although he's a strong supporter of the military) but he's been fairly savage to all the parties over the years (backing down and loving it, anyone?).

  • Good amusing post. I may not have always agreed with Mercer from a personal political view but he does try provoke thought.

G20 has trouble getting it together for 'family photo' at London summit

    By The Canadian Press

LONDON - Never mind finding consensus on fixing the global economy - the G20 can't seem to get it together for a group photo.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper was an unexpected no-show Thursday at the initial "family photo" of Group of 20 leaders. But that was just the start. The whole routine - which actually included leaders from more than 20 countries - was restaged about an hour later.

This time, however, it was Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and Indonesian president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono who were absent.

The photo imbroglio became the talk of the summit, with breathless foreign media quizzing their Canadian counterparts about British reports that Harper was "in the loo" when the first photo was taken.
