Closet Liberals

This may be a hoax, but here's a transcript of a letter allegedly being sent out from Rob Anders and Stephen Harper, urging CPC members to vote for the Anders-friendly slate at this week's AGM. Among the highlights:

Are you aware that there is battle taking place in Calgary West this Saturday? It’s between the true blue conservatives and “closet liberals”. It’s up to you and me to stop them from taking over this conservative riding. We cannot let the riding fall into liberal hands. There is a danger that if you don’t show up, this could happen at the AGM on Saturday.

[...]

*Be aware* - this group of “*closet liberals masquerading as conservatives*” have been plotting a take-over of the Calgary West Board of Directors.

[...]

*If you want to keep Calgary West a strong blue conservative riding, attend, and vote for the strong blue conservative slate.*

Thank you for supporting the Conservative Party of Canada,

Prime Minister Stephen Harper

Your MP, Rob Anders

Sounds like it will be a fun AGM - so, you know, if you happen to be there and want to send me a recap anonymously...

  • Geez, and as if it wasn't difficult to tell the two parties apart before! It's all getting to be like a GK. Chesterton novel or a Tide commercial.

  • Liberals are going to the NDP and to the Conservatives. Soon there will only be two parties, the NDP and the evil bush-loving conservatives.

  • Except the polls have it going the other way - NDP voters going Liberal. But nice try.

  • Anders is a jackass. HE is a true conservative.

Polls have been shown that when Martin and Dion were leaders to but on the poll that counts the Dippers have been consistently burrowing into Liberal support. The overhyping of Iggy isn't the boon, Liberals think it is, the paint is already coming off. The NDP is damned lucky the Liberals(well their backroom vanguard anyways) selected 'Harper with a haircut and a Harvard accent' as their leader.

  • I'm just glad Iggy had Harper on probation when he tried to give himself a 3 billion dollar slushfund!

  • CG:

I have posted a disclaimer onto the weblog about what I know about this letter. I do not believe it is a hoax, given the timing and my source.

  • Will Anders his army of goons to block the entrance again like last time, thus preventing dissenters from voting against him?

  • Ya it is totally true, I have the letter sitting in front of me right now.

More convincing is the letter from Ezra Levant that came along with it.

  • Sounds like Alberta will be a third world country, where its kids can skip classes on evolution. Anders rejoices.

Alberta embracing gay rights in law
By Sheila Pratt, Edmonton JournalMarch 27, 2009 5:01 AM

EDMONTON — Alberta will take the 'long overdue' step of writing protection for sexual orientation into the province’s human-rights law — a decade after the Supreme Court of Canada extended those rights to Alberta’s gays and lesbians.

Culture Minister Lindsay Blackett says he wants to include sexual orientation in Alberta’s human-rights law, possibly as early as this spring.

Blackett said he also wants to, as part of the same legal reform package, strip the Alberta Human Rights Commission of the power to adjudicate cases involving hate crimes and free speech, adding that those matters are better handled by the hate laws in the Criminal Code.

His proposed reform package will also include a new “parents’ choice” provision, enshrining parents’ right to withdraw their children from parts of the school curriculum they feel conflict with their religious beliefs, said Blackett on Thursday.

  • Calgary's FFWD Weekly interviewed Anders and he used the word Liberal 26 times (in a 14 min. conversation) mostly in reference to his potential nomination rival. http://www.ffwdweekly.com/article/news-views/streeter/the-struggle-to-unseat-rob-anders-3514/

Thus, I don't doubt the authenticity of this letter.

  • It isn't a hoax... I just received a prerecorded call from Rob asking me to come vote at the meeting tomorrow to keep the "closet liberals" out of power.

  • I'm not favor on those two parties.
