Who you know in the OLO

Ignatieff's office begins to take shape, with a lot of familiar names, from Aggarwal to Zed...


[Ignatieff] has yet to hire a chief of staff to run his office. But insiders say former New Brunswick MP Paul Zed will effectively take on that role – without the title – until a permanent top aide can be found.

Ian Davey, who was instrumental in wooing Mr. Ignatieff back to Canada from Harvard and who ran his 2006 leadership campaign, has been named principal secretary.

Sachin Aggarwal, operations director during the leadership campaigns, will take on the job of deputy chief of staff.

Jill Fairbrother and Leslie Church, both of whom handled media relations for Mr. Ignatieff's leadership bids, will share communications responsibilities in the Opposition leader's office as well.

Rocco Rossi, CEO of Ontario's Heart and Stroke Foundation, is expected to assume the party's top administrative job, replacing Greg Fergus.

Don Guy, a former chief of staff to Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty, is expected to be named campaign director while Warren Kinsella will manage the war room, as he's done in the past for Mr. McGuinty and former prime minister Jean Chrétien.

  • It's going to be interesting what Ignatieff does with Gerard.

    If he is smart, he will keep him close and use him in important portfolios like McGuinty did - as critic of Health and then Education - while the Ontario provincial Liberals were in Opposition.

  • Leslie Church! Great pick. I remember sparring with her at the UofA Model Parliament 10 years ago and Question Period and bill debates. She was the PM and I was the opposition leader. Good to see she's very involved.

  • I don't know Leslie Church well, but everyone I've talked to speaks very highly of her.

    And getting Don Guy + Kinsella on board for the election team is a very good move.

    Rossi sounds intriguing - hopefully it's a sign fundraising will be a top priority.

  • Wow, it used to the Liberal Party of Canada, then it was reduced to the Liberal Party of Ontario and now the rump leftover id the Liberal Party of Toronto.

    Continue the great work. Canada needs even less of the LPC.

  • I've known Church for almost a decade now. She's fairly talented, not to mention fun to be around. She's a Liberal, to be sure, but she's also an Albertan. I'm curious as to how she takes to being called part of the top-heavy Toronto crowd.

  • On Warren Kinsella's site, the quotation from the Sun says he ran war rooms for both J.C. and Dalton.. so I don't think he'd put up the quotation on his page if it weren't factual.
