Obamarama

Barack's infomercial appears tonight at 8 pm - the rumoured cost of 5 million dollars is about as much money of the Liberal Party raised in 2007, by the way.

And later tonight, you can catch the next President on The Daily Show. Because, judging by the polls, this one's as close to a lock as they get.

That said, to my American readers, make sure you still vote:

  • I have some real questions about Obama's infomercial...

Will there be lots of charts?

If we donate during the address, do we get an Obama tote bag? A CD of Obama sings Christmas hits? Will Steve Ballmer be there?

  • After watching the broadcast tonight, I felt obligated to write this message to my American readers:

Those who have watched Barack Obama's special TV broadcast tonight will have a better idea of what he stands for and what he will be able to deliver as president.

There is no doubt whatsoever in my mind, heart or soul that Obama is an opportunity to turn the best country the world into an even better country. Opportunities like these don't come around every four or eight years; they present themselves once every several hundred years.

On November 4, whether you are a Republican or a Democrat, you have one clear choice, and that choice is Barack Obama. Don't allow your judgment to be clouded by ideology or partisanship. Instead, make the choice that is right for your country, America.

Despite its problems and crises, the United States of America is the most powerful and best country in the world. America has always been a beacon of hope and opportunity. For some time now, though, its light has been dimmed somewhat, and unless you, my dear American readers, make the right choice on November 4, that light will grow darker until, one day, it may be extinguished entirely.

In Barack Obama, you will have a president that is as "normal", "ordinary" and human as all of you. He won't go off to some "castle in the sky" and forget about what life is like for all of you.

As a Canadian, I can only wish for a leader like Barack Obama, because in my country we do not have any leader who comes even close to what Barack Obama represents. In fact, in Canada, in all its history, we have never had a leader of Obama's calibre. If we had, Canada, perhaps, would not be the intractable mess it is today.

My wife, a lifelong conservative voter, was moved to tears by Obama's broadcast tonight and sobbed through it all – yes, a conservative was moved to tears by Obama's message. If she were an American, she would vote for Barack Obama on November 4 not just once, but a million times over. She even expressed the hope that Obama could serve more than two terms in office – she was that impressed and moved by him, as a person, and by his message for hope and change.

I implore you, my dear American readers, to vote for Barack Obama on November 4. Vote for change, vote for hope, vote for a better America and vote for a better world for yourselves and your children.

  • An infomercial? My first thought was "Ross Perot."

Whatever happened to him? I thought he was awesome.

  • The "newscast" is a joke. If anything, George W. Bush deserves a third term (if it were possible) for keeping not just the United States but the world safe.

  • Palin weighs down ticket, poll finds
    By Michael Cooper

    Thursday, October 30, 2008
NEW YORK: A growing number of voters have concluded that Senator John McCain's running mate, Governor Sarah Palin, is unqualified to be president, weighing down the Republican ticket in the closing stages of the campaign, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll.

The poll shows that 59 percent of voters believe Palin is unqualified to be vice president - up nine points from a week earlier. Fully a third of voters said that the vice-presidential selection would be a major factor in their vote for president - much more than have said so in past elections - and those voters broke overwhelmingly in favor of Senator Barack Obama of Illinois.

In another indication of how McCain's choice of Palin has hurt his image, voters said that they had much more confidence in Obama to pick qualified people to serve in his administration than they did in McCain.

The new poll found that opinions of Obama and McCain have hardened considerably in the waning days of the 2008 campaign, with nine out of 10 voters saying they have settled on a candidate and a growing number of them calling it "extremely important" that their candidate win and expressing alarm about what the other candidate would do if elected.

The poll highlighted Obama's success in solidifying much of the support he amassed in the final month of campaigning. He maintains a lead, with 51 percent of likely voters supporting Obama and 40 percent supporting McCain, the poll found. Just under one in 10 voters said that they could still change their minds.

The nationwide telephone poll was conducted Saturday through Wednesday with 1,439 adults across the United States, including 1,308 registered voters. The margin of sampling error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.
