Text We Can!

Has anyone else been incredibly excited at every incoming text message they've gotten over the past 48 hours?

I keep glancing down expecting a "sorry 2 keep u waitng - my vp is biden", even when the aforementioned text comes in at 11 pm.

Soon...soon...

UPDATE: According to the CNN ticker, Bayh, Clinton and Kaine are out, while there is "activity" at the Bidens. So all signs are pointing to Joe, with the text coming tomorrow morning.

I must say, while Sebelius had been my choice, I think Biden would make a very clean, articulate, bright Vice Presidential nominee.

JOMENTUM UPDATE: Biden it is. Not a bad pick, although the 3 a.m. announcement was a bit odd. If done on Thursday or Friday afternoon, the text messages/e-mails could have generated some word of mouth buzz and gotten evening news and Saturday newspaper coverage.

I'm hoping they use Biden as the attack dog, because I think the Obama campaign has been a bit too cautious so far, and has allowed McCain to define the agenda so far.

  • The real fun begins when friends start spamming friends with fake announcements. Might have to be done from "unknown" phone numbers, tho. Not that I'd recommend that sort of bad behaviour.

  • The Liberals should get people to sign up and get inside stock tips from Scott Brison via text.

  • Admittedly, the campaign is so technologically-oriented, all potential running mates seem to be quite good with IM.

  • Seriously, the suspense is killing me here.

I was disappointed in a few punches Hillary Clinton threw in the primaries, but overall I think she's pretty cool - I'd be really happy to see them together on the ticket.

  • Fun things to do if you're Evan Bayh or one of the candidates whose house has been surrounded by cameras:

    Go Outside.
    Mow the lawn.
Answer you cell phone and look all excited.
    Run inside.
    Watch the pundits go insane.

  • Man, I wish you knew Evan Bayh personally, and that he had a great sense of humour.

Lacking a cell, I've requested my roommate to call me immediately when he hears word.

Why all the fussy draw-out for someone who's going to turn out anti-climactic, ie. Kaine? I'm starting to think it will be Clinton, after all. Or a real shocker, like David Petraeus or Warren Buffet.

My lucky just-for-fun totally random five bucks says Arnold Schwarzenegger introduces Obama's speech.

  • If Obama picks Clinton, he should call her at 3 am to let her know - just to make sure she is ready.

  • Woah, it's out! Obama faked everyone out by posting the news on YouTube instead!

Whoa, nice one - high five!

  • re: Jomentum Update:

Agreed 100%. Hillary could have been that attack dog, too. But I'm sure Biden will have lots to say.

By Blogger Jacques Beau Vert, at 1:51 p.m.

  • One of the news channels had it as Biden Friday evening (after the main news hour, so the campaign wouldn't get much coverage), and CNN reports that Joe was told on Thursday. It seems clear that the campaign never really had this whole "announcement" thing under control.

Seeing Biden and Obama together, though, really does emphasize the inexperience of the latter.

By Blogger Paul, at 2:13 p.m.

  • Odd time isn't it? Exactly 3 am.

Hillary's most effective ad against Obama was the

    "Three a.m." ad.

Funny of the 24 hours he chose to formally announce that Hillary would not be his running mate he chose

3 a.m. Not 8 pm or 10:30, or if late at night was required (due to bandwidth) not 3:30 or 4:45, 4:47, gee the possibilities range by the mathematical factor of 60x12.

Yet he chose the time of Hillary's most damning ad against him to snub her.

    What a bridge builder.

What a way to build bridges.

  • The RNC ads showing Biden praising McCain as someone good for the country, and proclaiming Obama too inexperienced,

    are hilarious.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 2:55 p.m.

  • I could see the McCain ads with Biden criticizing Obama's inexperience backfiring once he picks Romney (which is very likely, IMO) as his running mate.

By Blogger MB, at 2:58 p.m.

  • Yawn!

By Blogger JimTan, at 3:22 p.m.

  • Yeah, I'm guessing 'party unity' was not on his mind when he made the selection -- it'll be quite fascinating to watch and learn what happens in that regard.

By Blogger Jacques Beau Vert, at 3:52 p.m.

  • Yeah, Obama may be under-estimating the bitterness of some Hillary supporters but it would be tough to put her on the ticket, given everything that's happened.

By Blogger calgarygrit, at 4:09 p.m.

  • Totally agree, both counts. I'm sorry it didn't work out better, but maybe it just goes to show we should all be nicer to our allied rivals.

Maybe it would be smart to offer her a top spot early on, like Secretary of State or etc. I dunno, though.

By Blogger Jacques Beau Vert, at 6:36 p.m.

  • That jerk Obama never actually sent me the text message he promised. :) I got a 3am e-mail (which I was totally ready for!), but no text.

Did anyone else with a Canadian number get it? It might have only been sent to Americans...

  • In hindsight, I wish I'd known about this link yesterday...

I try to pepper everyday speech w/ the term.

By Blogger Independent, at 11:19 p.m.

  • Yeah, I never got the text either...but got the e-mail. I'm thinking they may have screened out Canadian numbers.

By Blogger calgarygrit, at 12:29 p.m.

  • Hillary was a lose lose for obama anyway

he picks her, republicans run ads of her saying he isnt ready

he doesnt pick her, the republicans run ads saying Obama snubbed her because she said he wasnt ready.

I am starting a pool to see when the first republican pundit freudian slips his way into

    Osama Biden

    Obama Bin Laden

    Obama Liden

my money is on 3 weeks tops!

By Blogger Anthony, at 1:10 p.m.

  • I say by next Sunday. Ten bucks.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 2:49 p.m.

  • Obama-Biden vs Osama Bin Laden.

In the end, there can be only one.

By Blogger Jacques Beau Vert, at 4:26 p.m.

  • God I kill me!

By Blogger Jacques Beau Vert, at 4:26 p.m.

  • you can also add Obama bin laden.
