Anti-Endorsement

This kind of makes me like Jim Dinning a bit more:

Ted Morton and Gary McPherson are the new poster boys of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation.

The advocacy organization awarded the pair of would-be premiers top marks - a "B" and a "B-" respectively - for responses to a questionnaire on tax cuts, transparency and health-care privatization.

At the other end of the spectrum, Jim Dinning and Ed Stelmach both got a "D+" largely for refusing to commit to tax cuts or reforms and for refusing to support an increase in private health care delivery.

  • To be honest CG I dont really get your dislike for Dinning in the first place. He seems to be the best that a Liberal minded person like yourself can hope for. Better than Morton, THATS for sure.

  • McPherson also said that with Morton is so far to the right that the party would have to drop the word "Progressive" from its name if he became leader (or, my favourite, replace it with "Backward")

  • If you liked Dinning with a "D" you must love Hancock with an "F"

    In fairness - Hancock submitted his response the next day after the CTF released thier report. The CTF is reviewing again and reasessing the ratings.

    BTW lower taxes is the LEAST important issue on Albertans minds from findings so far in the "Send 'Em a Message" survey at www.policychannel.com

    Visit the site and do the survey - takes about 5 minutes and makes you think.

  • I do agree with the ideas the Canadian Taxpayers Federation promote here, but I do feel they are two one sided. Low taxes is definitely important and I am all for more private involvement in health care if it will improve results, but not out of blind ideology.

    As for Ted Morton, they guy is so far right that even in Conservative Alberta they would have a tough time stomaching him. He might be electable in Texas or Alabama, but thats about it.
