Media Star

Linda Diebel has a good profile of Gerard Kennedy in the Star today. In it you can find some rather "colourful" praise from Bruce Young and a few quotes from yours truly (although, for the record, I never compared Gerard to Trudeau).

  • You must be pleased to hear your "influential" blog endorsing Kennedy single-handedly led to Kennedy winning Alberta for the most delegates. Congrats :)

  • scott; Yeah, I think the cause and effect may be off a bit on that one...

  • I was looking at your seeding round for greatest Prime Minister that never was... I wonder what kind of story would be behdind Rene Levesque becoming Prime Minister - lol :D

By Blogger Harrap, at 7:05 p.m.

  • The story behind that would be "Levesque does better in Canada than Kennedy does in Quebec."

  • I don't know about Alberta delegates, but - I think CG has sold me. I'm behind Kennedy, and if his French isn't up to speed - I frankly think he's got at least 5 years to bone up on it, to make it count when it will be needed.

I don't think the Liberals should win the next election - it's not time yet. No party should rule for too long - ever. It's the Tories' turn. I think Kennedy is in for the right reasons, and that's the most important thing to me.

He'll be ready in 5 years, or in 9 - and I think he'll make an admirable Opposition leader.

  • Did anyone else notice that she seemed to be confused as to the name of Canada's 4th largest university? Unless I missed something and the University of Alberta has been renamed the University of Edmonton?

    Sheesh. Such typical Toronto.

  • hasty; Gerard went to the U of A so I don't think I'd write it off to "Toronto arrogance"...

  • For my part, I want to elect a guy who is able to beat Harper tomorrow.

Not me - the Liberals have had their shot for 13 years, and that's enough.

NO party should rule on and on and on - it's time for a change at the helm. I support Kennedy who is on the left side of the leadership race - I also think Harper is a really good PM so far. If we could have both of them in a row - that'd be great luck for Canada.

I'm really disappointed in Liberals who think they should rule unchallenged - it's disgusting. (Same goes for any Conservatives who think the same)

And where exactly is Harper ruining Canada's international reputation? I don't buy into idiotic hysteria.

  • "NO party should rule on and on and on "

Maybe so, but Stephen Harper's Reform Party is not morally fit to govern - EVER.

It is not the Liberal Party's fault that the only other major party holds such repugnant views and panders to bigotry.

  • Huh! Well, kipper me knickers, Bart. Apparently you removed a post I put up that said Kennedy has no chance to win this time because he can't speak French well enough (but that maybe he has a chance to be Ignatieff's successor in a few years' time).

Is this an example of your commitment to balance, free speech, etc.?

  • I do not accept the proposition that Gerard cannot win the next election. In fact I think he can... more so than any of the other candidates.

But even if we assume for a second that he might not be able to the other frontrunners (and in particular Ignatieff and Rae) definitely couldn't.

By Blogger KC, at 12:30 p.m.

  • I'm really not sure why you think Ignatieff couldn't win the next election. The only tools the opposition can use against him (the NDP in particular) are the slanders alleging he "supports torture". Once he's leader, there will be a lot more scrutiny of that claim, and reasonable people will recognize it's false. Then they'll move on to look at his actual proposals for the country, and people will like those a lot. People will compare Mr. Ignatieff with Mr. Harper, and the two parties' priorities under those leaders, and they'll vote on that basis. I am pretty confident he can win. Let's resist the temptation to either lionize Mr. Kennedy beyond the evidence, or demonize Mr. Ignatieff.

  • Oh my god, there is a great deal of helpful data above!
