Revolving Door

What do ya know? Looks like John Reynolds is going to do a little lobbying now that he doesn't have to spend his time selling voters on the idea of accountability and all that unpleasant campaign stuff.


UPDATE: Reynolds clarifies things. Sort of.

  • Oh come on. The man joins a law firm and suddenly he's public enemy number 1? Gimme a break. The man's got a right to do whatever he wants. Also why are lobbyists demons? They have a job to do just like everyone else. I agree with the Accountability Act principles but its not like Lobbyists are the devils incarnate!

    He got a job at a LAW FIRM.... ease off!

  • Given that he is not a lawyer, there are a number of possibilities for him to provide value to the firm. Perhaps, using his long parliamentary experience, he could run the photocopier.

    Or perhaps, he is just going to try and trade on his connnections with Harper and the boys to get underserved benefits for his clients.

  • 1. Reynolds isn't a lawyer. What do you think he's doing at the firm?

    2. Yes, this wouldn't violate the accountability act since Reynolds was never in government. But if low level government employees can't lobby because of their connections to government wouldn't it stand to reason that the CAMPAIGN MANAGER is in the same sort of conflict of interest situation?

  • I have to agree with Riley and the others who are skeptical of this issue being really important and 'evidence' of some hypocrisy.

    Reynolds joined as an 'advisor' according to the story that I quickly scanned. Which does not necessarily mean he is a lobbyist.

    IF he does begin lobbying THEN it might be hypocrisy. But until then, why don't we all just take a chill pill and wait it out.

    John Reynolds has broken no law; not has he even broken the spirit of the law.

    The last time I looked the Reform/Alliance and Conservative parties have never been in governmnet nor has Reynolds ever been a Minister, staffer of a minister, or a senior official. But what do I know. I'm just a registered lobbyist here in Ottawa.

  • I'm still wondering why the Liberal Party never put forward any accountability legislation like the NDP or Conservatives did during the campaign. Could've got them a lot of votes. Too many skeletons in the closet perhaps? Just plum didn't think of it? Silly Liberals.

    If he's a lobbyist, he'll have to register. Even if he is a lobbyist, who cares. It's a job... he makes good money for a reason.

    Also I don't drink Kool-Aid, and am a supporter of the Liberal party... not the Paul Martin one, but the real one before it was hijacked. I'm glad the Cons got in this time so that the pompous hypocritical and dithering Martin team members will get the boot.

    Everyone should chill out about the Reynolds thing. He's not committed any crime. You should be asking why Martin is still the leader of the Liberal party instead.

  • This is hilarious,

    gotta love these Liberals, those who supported a party that (under the guise of saving Canada) funneled taxpayer money to their party with under-the-table cash stuffed envelopes,

    where the party mantra became "hey the cops haven't laid charges yet" and my favorite "if you have questions ask the RCMP",

    now trying to point the finger at Conservative conduct, relying on their own party's damning behaviour and the mistrust it created, to suggest there must be something more to otherwise benign behavior.

    There's three more Liberal scandals that are going to break before the next election. This time, the Libs will not have the government strings to blunt the blow.

    I suspect there wont be a Liberal out there, wagging their finger at anybody, once these next ones blow.
