Double Standard

I must say, I'm really looking forward to the cartoons we'll see tomorrow of Stephen Harper and David Emerson in bed. I mean, fair's fair, right? Right?

  • I may not like Belinda, but I mean, the cartoons when she crossed the floor were a bit sexist. They all had to do with sex, either showing her as a prostitute, cheating, or just plain ol' sexual ones. That doesn't happen when a man crosses the floor. Geh, pissed me off.

    What's this about the new Justice Minister being a Mennonite? I mean, Mennonites are great for, say, foreign aid, but their ideas of "a woman's place" tend not to be..uh..as "up to date" as the rest of the country.

  • that would be sweet if when i picked up my paper today there was a cartoon of emerson and harper in the sack together cuddling, or perhaps one with harper gettting right behind david and giving him all the support he needs as cabinet minister, or perhaps one with harper smiling like the proverbial King, while all you see is the top of david's head at the bottom of the cartoon. that would be nice

  • Any Conservative that's got a problem with this is an idiot. Sometimes things need to be done. Emerson crossed the floor, and the people of Vancouver and Alberta should be damn happy he did. Do you know how involved he is in the Pacific portfolio... do you have any idea how important that portfolio is?

    Better a turncoat who know's what the fuck supposed to be done, then having to break in a fresh face, with probably less experience in the area concerned.

    Get over it, live with it, be happy for your wallet, cause it will pay big dividends for the nation down the road.

    As far as Fortier is concerned... it's definately bad optics, but it's damn good politics, and he has commited to running for his position in the next election.

    I can live with that. All you people who are shitting over Senate reform and Democratic process, relax. Stephan needs a majority, and this is definately the part of the path he needs to follow.

    Thank you for letting us know that we should be happy. I am always happy when democracy is circumvented. Why bother having elections at all when we can just have Harper choose for us? After all, the beloved leader knows best.

    It is amazing how fast convictions and principles are thrown out the door by conservatives. You guys campaigned on integrity and accountability. You demonized Liberal supports as corrupt based on these grounds.

    I have never seen a more blatant "Do as I say, not as I do" attitude.

    Harper messed up and he deserves the smackdown he is getting right now. We may just have a stillborn government.

  • I live in Alberta, and I've dealt with many Mennonite communities. They are nice people, just their views on women's rights are behind the rest of the Canada. I could understand having a Mennonite involved with Foreign Aid, that's a perfect portfolio, since they tend to be very involved in aid, charity, and assistance.

    I see Mennonites as religous extremists (peaceful and nice extremists, but extremists none the less), and I'm not comfortable having an extremist as the Justice Minister.

    I don't know what kind of Mennonites you deal with (imaginary?) but I have many aquaintences and none of them are anywhere close to your description. You might as well shit all over Harper because he's a Protestant! Maybe an extremist! God Forbid! A Protestant! Save us!

    Seriously, you need to either visit a Mennonite Church or a Ten Thousand Villages store or at the very least try fucking Google.
