Into the Lion's Den

From the sounds of things, both Martin and Harper will be making their first (only?) visits to Alberta today.


UPDATE: Well, they're still playing U2 to introduce Paul at these things, despite his lovers spat with Bono. For what it's worth, Paul was pretty good tonight - lots of emotion, looked rested, looked genuine.

  • Those numbers are over a month old. And, in my opinion, a little suspect.

    Leger did have the gap significantly smaller than their last poll and SES has it tightening too, so it looks like the CPC are gaining ground.

    But the Libs are still up 5-7% across the board.

  • Alberta complains about how Ontario votes. But judging by election day for the last, oh, 30 years, it is almost always Alberta that is out of step with the rest of the Country.

    "The Liberals will trust their advertising friends with $100 million, but they don't trust Mom and Dad with $100 a month."

    That's golden.

  • Alberta is out of step with the rest of the country?

    Well, I guess if the "rest of the country" equates to Ontario...

    Perhaps Ontario is out of step, eh? They're pretty much the only ones left who seem to be still conflicted as to what to do about getting oinked blind by the federal Liberals.

    (I'm going to wait now and see if someone from the Maritimes jumps in and says, "Us, too! Us, too!")

  • Richard, Stephen Harper is actually trusting Mom and Dad with $200 million per month, stretched across all mothers. Over a time to span the sponsorship scandal (six years), Stephen Harper would be trusting parents with $15 billion.

  • Seeing as how Martin is sueing to have that $100 million returned with court dates in May 2006, and $100 per month for Harper's middle and upper class earners means diddly, it is not such a great quote but more like lies.

    What is $100 per month going to do for lower income parents? Nothing.

    And presuming they're "lower income" as you noted, lets say the household combined income is about $40,000, with one kid they recieve $1200.

    That's a 3% increase in their fiscal well being.

    No "us too" will be heard. Polls are rapidly tightening down this way, as nobody, but nobody can feel the wind with their finger like a maritimer, and we always hedge our bets.

    Read the Globe article (parroting Martin's stump - what great advertisement....er...journalism)

    Towards the end of the articl they said there was hardly anyone there, with Lib candidates making up the majority of the crowd.

    Pretty pathetic. The headline should have read:

    MARTIN FAILS TO DRAW SUPPORTERS TO CAMPAIGN IN BC

    But it's the Globe (Galloway no less) so they just gave the free advertisement, while ignoring press releases from the Libs that proved Martin lied.
