Gomery II

For once, I've managed to scoop the Globe & Mail on a PMO leak. Last evening, I received a brown envelope with the transcript of Paul's radio broadcast he will deliver this Sunday. I've re-printed the text bellow:

"My fellow Canadians: We have finally gotten to the bottom of this horrible, horrible scandal, that has shown Canadians how terrible and corrupt the Liberal Party truly is. Let me be perfectly clear: I am mad as hell at what happened and would just like to re-emphasize how terrible this scandal was. But we must remember, this was a Liberal scandal, not a Paul Martin scandal. I'm sure all Canadians can agree it was well worth 80 million taxpayer dollars to see "Martin exonerated!" headlines.

But now is not the time to look back, but to look ahead. China and India are undergoing transformative change, and because of this, in my continuing battle against the democratic deficit I have been consulting day and night with my five Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries responsible for this file. Due to the immense success of the Gomery Inquiry, we have decided to bring back Judge Gomery for a new Public Inquiry. This time, he will investigate Earnscliffe Strategy Group. Especially close attention will be paid to the tendering process used to get government contracts and, in particular, Department of Finance contracts, from 1993 to 2002.

Some, such as Michael Robinson and Elly Alboim, may wonder why I am doing this. So let me be perfectly clear: I have already shown a willingness to publicly air the dirty laundry of my arch nemesis - now I must show that I, Paul Martin, am perfectly clean. A massive media circus inquiry where everyone with a bone to grind will be given immunity, is the only way we can achieve this.

And just as Bernard Roy was the ideal man to prosecute Jean Chretien, I will strongly recommend to Judge Gomery that the lead council for this inquiry be
Mr. Warren Kinsella.

Come hell or high water, we will get to the bottom of this!

Thank you, and enjoy your Sunday."

  • LOL!

Loved the completely off the topic China and India comment and the DemRef ministers.

  • PMPM has wrecked the Liberal party. As a Tory voter, I hate to admit this, but He'd have done his party a solid if he'd had just wiped it aside like Chretien used to do. Now, the prospect of separation of Quebec from Canada (not like I really give a shit as they have no material affect on Alberta's economy - they'll come begging back within 2 years anyhow) is much greater thanks to Martin. Thinking of that, can you imagine a Canada with no french? Wow, I like it already, no more whineing, transfer payments, french cereal boxes...wow..maybe Paul Martin has a plan after all...I like it ! ;P

  • My favorite part of your post:

    "Martin exonerated"

  • If he does that (which he won't), then I will join in you in fighting his government.

  • Very funny!

Are you sure you're a Liberal?

  • Paul Martin should have swept this whole mess under the rug, not made it into a national soap opera. All he should have done is have a discreet enquiry, quietly punish those responsible etc. He is doing untold damage to the Liberal Party and thus the values we Canadians hold dear. Once the Conservatives elect a proper leader, Martin is finished.

  • You forgot the part where he tells us the obligatory story about when his father took him to the House of Commons as a kid.

  • Once again a commenter compares the values or lack thereof of the Liberal Party with those of Canadians.

Mezba has no shame and obviously very little decency. He\She looks good covered in the s@it from the gomery report.

Of course, this very attitude is at the root of the whole problem, isn't it?

  • I would delighted to see Martin and crew swept from history if it did not mean that a bunch of strave the beast religious fruitcakes would take over the reigns of power.

Martin political instincts are horrible. He stupidly focuses on things the Conservatives wish to focus on. He has moved so slowy on things that the Liberal party were lauded for internationally (e.g., gay marriage and decriminalization of pot) that suppporters do not count him among their ranks and neither do oppenents. His instincts are all wrong and so he frequently makes missteps (e.g., missile Defense). This gives his government an entirely ad hoc apperance. It also reveals him to be what marketers call a late adopter. His attempt to deal with ad scam has divided the party, sunk it at the poles and most importantly might lead to the break up of the country. The later is especially likely if Republican want to be Stephen Harper is elected.

  • Colin: I have chosen to express my politican opinion, and you have chosen to resort to name calling and insults. If this is symbolic of the Conservatives (calling Belinda a dipstick), no wonder most Canadians don't like them. Atleast the comment by deaner is acceptable, his opinion that my opinion is a problem is atleast an opinion.

    What koby said,

I agree with hundred percent. And I have been saying it repeatedly. Ditch Harper, Stockwell Day and a couple of nuts from the CPC and watch it become more relevant to Canadians. Talk about issues and how you would treat problems Canadians are concerned with (gas, tax, education, health). Stop bitching about the Liberal government.

Look at the Ontario Provincial Conservative Party. They have ditched their unpopular leader, chosen a moderate one, talks about issues concerning Ontario and now they are neck-and-neck with the Liberals. Never mind the fact that one Liberal cabinet minister is charged with fraud, and the leader has lied big time.

And yet the federal Conservatives (in your opinion) have a "nut" for a leader and don't "talk about issues", and they're also neck-and-neck with the Liberals.
