Chew On This

An independent audit appears to have cleared David Dingwall. While I'm not sure this "completely exonerates" him, it should quiet this story down for a bit.

Gosh, now what possibly will the Conservatives have to ask questions about?

  • Because he was pushed out by Martin and the crew. It wasn't a real resignation. And that's why he will get severance.

    He was actually a good CEO. We were getting our money's worth. But politics has intervened and we will end up paying money for nothing.

    He was CEO of a company that makes the stamps and currentcy for something like 10 other countries and there is a very competitive world wide market.

    Printing our money is almost a byproduct of the other business they do.

  • Read Shiela Copp's column in the Toronto Sun from 1 week ago regarding the Dingwall issue. People don't understand that if this was a private company, he would be earning lots more, having more perks, less stress and charging more to his expense account. I think the conservatives jumped the gun on this one and now will be made to wipe the egg off their faces. Yet another reason for me why Harper is not a good leader, he should know when to jump and when to sit still. How I wish Belinda was chosen as leader of the party then, or McKay now. Harper must go!

  • What is your point Dinno?? The Liberals are alleged to have done X and so the Conservatives get a walk on this. This is what is called a Red Herring.

    Do not get me wrong, this is not a huge issue, but the Conservatives and media looked terrible. Indeed, it would almost be preferable for the Conservatives that Pallister acted with ill intent than that he acted in good faith, but was just hopelessly wrong. Whatever the case, they can take solace in the fact that Pallister will probably not come out looking both slimy and amatureish, a la Grewal.

  • Re earning more in a private company.

    What utter nonsense. This is not a private company it is a crown corporation. Which means that it belongs to the government/ people of Canada. Yes a private company ceo would earn more and have more perks. but Mr. Dingwall was not a private CEO. I doubt very much if he would could be obtain such a position if not for his political connections.
    When political appointees bitch about how they could earn more in the private sector I say go for it. Earn more. I dare you. But the truth is they couldn't Dingwall may have been a competent ceo but let's not kid anyone he got the job because of connections.

  • While the Conservatives and Palliser do wind up looking bad, I think they've still come out on top of this. Few people will care much about the quick little retraction, instead they'll remember chewing gum, "liberal patronage", and bloated expense accounts.

    And, to be fair, there is still the severance issue in play here. Although, since Dingwall has been cleared, I don't see why he shouldn't get a severance package.

  • I think Calgary Grit is right. A retraction will not garner as much press coverage and as a result the whole thing will hurt the Liberals more than the Conservatives. Too bad. The Conservatives should be chopped down at the knees for this stunt, but hey it aways was to much to expect Canwest and Sun media chains to get the facts straight. That said, if Dingwall goes ahead with a civil suit that may change.
